Lake Sapphire Cottage #2
Some Outdoors Work

Saturday August 7th. I think it's time to install a deck.
We knocked out the old well pit. It's right in front of where the deck stairs want to go.

Then we dug the 6 post holes and dropped 4 inches of concrete in the bottom.

While the concrete was curing, we ran up to Bloom Lake with the Stake truck and trailer to grab up the dozer. The dozer has some steering brake issue, and I'd like to get them fixed to grade the area.
Sunday, the posts are in, the beams set. We set everything up with a lazer level, that sure is nice!. Now we can get started with the joist layout.
The joists drop in as fast as the crew could bring them.
That's the last of them.
We'll add a little blocking to support the picture framing around the edges.
We nailed down the deck boards with the ends running wild. A quick zip with the saw makes them all flush. A mitered frame around the perimeter hides the end grain for a clean look.
That's it, a few minor details to take care of, and we're done!
Monday, we built a quick set of stairs. It sure is nice to be able to walk up to the doorwall.
We'll sand a few sharp corners and break the rough edges before we head for home.
That view again!
Saturday August 20th,
We're back and ready to put up some deck railings. I wish we could fix up that beach area.
Carol is cutting the thin wall conduit (EMT) that we'll use for the spindles in our railing. We can get 4 spindles from $1.68 length of conduit
We pre-drilled the wood and machined the posts at home to speed things up
Just cut the railing sections to length, tap in the conduit, and screw them in place.
Sweet, that's it!
That view...
Hey, let's pop that stump out with the dozer
Umm, that's a lot bigger than I first thought and it's pretty tight quarters to be running the dozer too!
Wow!
I'm feeling froggy on a Sunday night, let's crack open the front yard and make it better.
The scrubby trees are gone, it's starting to open up.
Monday, now for our famous retaining wall that we used on our other place
Almost there, a few more wall sections and we're done!
Let's roll, it's late Monday afternoon and we gotta go to work tomorrow!
