Summer of 2006 at Lake Sapphire
Summer Spiff Up

March 25th: Lake sapphire is still locked in winter's icy grip.

We stopped by the cottage during an early trip to Bloom Lake to see how it wintered.

The boss (Carol) decided we needed a level area near the porch to sit.

This is the area before we got started. Erosion is washing the sand down to the lake, and the steep slope is hard to walk on.

May 29th: Happy Memorial Day, we're working again.

We built a sectional retaining wall at home, and dragged it north to install.

Carol and Mike installing the last of the bolts that hold the panels together.

A real simple design we modified from the Family Handy Man site.

After the wall was built, I backfilled the area with our new tractor.

It took me a while to figure out how to run it.

Mike take time to do a bit of chemistry homework. Jenny has to work, so she couldn't make it.

I did find time to catch 3 nice bass. I do believe I'm in the lead over Carol, 3-0 for the year!

Beth, Colin, Big Ben and Mark of Deem's Construction stopped by for swim in the lake.

They stayed at the Rosted Estates for the weekend. Mark owns the company that built the addition over there.

The first level is about finished. We added some drain tile to clear any rain water.

Now we're building the lower level, and planning some steps to finish up the beach landscaping next trip up.

June 4th: The second wall goes in. While we're at it how 'bout a a little area to sit, and steps, and....
About 8:30 that night, we finished the walkway, graded the area, and planted grass seed.

What a long weekend!

All that is left is to build a set of stairs down this steep slope
July 1st: Carol and I are back to build some stairs! Jenny and Mike are working!

We had to pick out about 2 tons of the rocks before we could built the 7 steps up the hill side.

The tractor came in handy to regraded the hillside, and changed the yard profile a bit.
We used the rocks we found on site to make some terraces for the plants.
We finished up the work in time to head out on the lake and catch a few fish
Another beautiful sunset at Lake Sapphire.
Now a nice set of wood steps to replace the slippery stones we had.
Another wonderful day ends with a sun set over the "Armada"
A weekend of good company, Sue and Gary join us for some watersports. Gary take a turn in the tube
Yahoo! Full speed ahead!
Now it's Sue's turn on the skis
Wow, nice ride!
Back at the cottage, Carol takes a little slower ride this time
Wow, that's ugly. Paul and Gary lounge in the sun.
A relaxing afternoon on the electric pontoon boat
The following weekend, Jeff and Deb joined us for a few days too.
Oh yea, that's a good look. Honest, it was the flash!
The grass is filling in nicely.

Uncle Tom & Aunt Chris and my parents, Paul & Gerry stopped over for dinner, and a beverage by the fire.
